Karachi, being one of the most populous cities in the world, is already grappling with numerous challenges. However, the flagrant disregard for traffic rules has reached an unprecedented level, posing a significant threat to public safety and exacerbating the existing traffic congestion. On a daily basis, one can witness a plethora of traffic violations on the roads of Karachi. Speeding, reckless driving, running red lights, lane indiscipline, illegal parking and failure to use indicators have become common occurrences, reflecting a widespread disregard for the rule of law and a lack of consideration for fellow citizens. Pedestrians and cyclists, who are already vulnerable road users, are particularly at risk due to the prevailing chaos. Moreover, the absence of effective law enforcement further exacerbates the problem. Traffic police personnel seem overwhelmed and ill-equipped to deal with the sheer magnitude of traffic violations taking place. The insufficient presence of traffic police on major intersections and the lenient penalties imposed for traffic offenses contribute to a culture of impunity among violators. The consequences of this alarming situation are severe. Karachi witnesses a significant number of road accidents, many of which result in injuries and fatalities. Immediate action is required by the law enforcement institutions against the violators.
