LHC moved against ‘illegal detention’ of Sh Rashid, others

RAWALPINDI: An application has been submitted before the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench against the alleged detention of former federal minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

The petition was filed in the Rawalpindi bench of the high court by Sheikh Rashid’s nephew Amir Shafiq.

The petition alleges that the police arrested the Awami Muslim League chief without a warrant and shifted him to an undisclosed location. It has made the federation, the Punjab government, the Punjab inspector general of police, the regional police officer parties.

The petition has challenged the arrest of Sheikh Rashid, his nephew Sheikh Shakir and staff members.

The petitioner claims that despite getting in touch, the police did not provide any information about the whereabouts of all those arrested. There is no case against those arrested nor are they required for interrogation in any case, he further contended.

The detained Sheikh Shakir is a businessman, and not related to any political activity, the petition maintains. He has been detained illegally. The court has been requested to order the police to produce all those arrested before the court, the petition states. The petitioner’s lawyer has requested for the hearing to be held the same day.
