Pesco crackdown: Rs270m in penalties for illegal power connections

PESHAWAR: The Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has initiated a crackdown against illegal electricity connections, resulting in a hefty penalties of over 270 million rupees in just seven days.

 

The PESCO said that coordinated raids against electricity theft have been conducted in various regions, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat, Bannu, and the Khyber Circle. “These operations have not only led to the disconnection of more than 900 illegal connections but also collection of a hefty penalty amount,” the PESCO officials said.

 

CEO PESCO, Muhammad Tahir, has issued strict directives to all officers to intensify efforts against electricity theft. Those found involved in electricity theft have been apprehended on the spot, and more than 706 individuals have been formally charged in FIRs, with 130 FIRs already registered.

 

CEO PESCO stressed that electricity thieves are “enemies of the public”, and the losses incurred due to theft burden the general consumers. He further revealed that the local administration is providing security assistance to PESCO to enable effective actions against those resisting compliance.
