University professors call on HEC to address key issues facing Tenure Track Teachers

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Tenure Track Association (APTTA) convened a crucial meeting in Islamabad, where they issued a stern call to the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) to address the pressing challenges encountered by Tenure Track Teachers (TTS) across the country.

As per details in the spirited gathering, APTTA members highlighted several critical issues plaguing the TTS community. Biggest among the issues were the prolonged stagnation of salaries, perceived discriminatory treatment in the proposed Version 3 of the Tenure Track System (TTS), and concerns regarding the discriminatory publication policy of the Higher Education Journal Ranking System (HJRS) concerning TTS members.

Tenure Track Teachers, who play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s higher education system, voiced their frustration over the absence of any salary increase in the past two years. This financial stagnation has placed a significant burden on TTS members, impacting their morale and motivation.

APTTA expressed deep reservations about certain provisions within the proposed Version 3 of the TTS, which they believe might undermine the rights and benefits of TTS members. The association called for a thorough review of these provisions to ensure fairness and equity.

The discriminatory publication policy of the Higher Education Journal Ranking System (HJRS) with regard to Tenure Track Teachers was another point of contention. APTTA argued that this policy has hindered the recognition and professional growth of TTS members.

APTTA, representing the collective voice of Tenure Track Teachers, categorically rejected any form of discrimination in the proposed TTS Version 3 and the publication policy of HJRS. They warned the Chairman of HEC to take immediate steps to address these concerns. In a clear message, APTTA stated that should the HEC fail to resolve these issues promptly, they would not hesitate to resort to various forms of peaceful protest, including sit-ins and legal actions, to secure justice for their members.

To reinforce their demands and concerns, APTTA penned a robust letter addressing the Chairman of HEC and relevant authorities. This letter underscored the urgency of addressing the issues raised in the meeting and called for swift action to alleviate the grievances of Tenure Track Teachers.
