10 terrorists killed in Tank IBO: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Ten terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday, reported the ISPR.

The ISPR – the military’s media affairs wing, in a statement, said that security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Pezu area of Tank district.

During conduct of the operation, intense fire exchange took place between our troops and terrorists and as result, ten terrorists were sent to hell, the ISPR said.

“Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces as well as extortion and targeted killing of innocent citizens,” it said.

The ISPR further stated that sanitisation of the area was being carried out to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.

“Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism,” the military’s statement added.

The security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country.

Sharp rise terror activities

Pakistan has seen an uptick in terror activities, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November.

Last month, at least three terrorists were killed by security forces in an operation carried out in Tirah valley of Khyber district.

According to ISPR, three terrorists, including a commander, were killed in a fierce exchange of fire with security forces.

“The security forces conducted an operation in the Tirah area of Khyber district following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

“This led to a heavy exchange of fire between the terrorists and security forces. As a result, three terrorists, including Commander Kifayat alias Toor Adnan, were killed,” the ISPR said in a statement.

The commander was reportedly involved in attacks on civilians and security forces.

Deadly September

A report published by an Islamabad-based think tank, earlier, said that terrorist attacks in Pakistan increased, with 136 people killed in 65 militant attacks across the country in September.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) monthly report, 144 people were injured, including civilians and security personnel, with the organisation also including the number of militants injured last month.

There was a noticeable 34% decrease in the number of attacks compared to August, but there was a 21% increase in the number of deaths and a significant 66% rise in injuries, the data shows.

“Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) emerged as the most targeted region, with 23 attacks resulting in 34 deaths and 78 injuries. Balochistan, on the other hand, saw a substantial increase in fatalities, primarily due to a single attack in Mastung,” it said.
