Cop martyred, another injured in Buner IED blast

SWAT: A policeman was martyred and another sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near a police mobile van in Elum mountainous area of Buner district here on Saturday, the police officials confirmed.

According to Buner District Police Officer (DPO) Shah Hassan Khan, a vehicle of the Elum Police was targeted in the attack when it was heading towards Elum from Pirbaba.

“The martyred person 42-year-old Amir Zada, was a resident of Katlang area of Mardan District,” the police officer added.

The DPO said that further investigation was underway and that report by the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) would further clarify the nature of the blast.

He further said that after the explosion, a heavy contingent of police and security forces rushed to the area. “A search has been launched after cordoning the entire area”, he said, warning that no one would be allowed to destabilize peace in the area and those found involved in such subversive activities would be dealt with sternly.
