LAHORE: Abid Hussain, better known as Abid Boxer, a former police officer infamous for his involvement in extrajudicial killings and fake encounters, was recently booked on charges of resisting the arrest of proclaimed offenders who were allegedly hiding in his residence.
The incident took place in Lahore, and Inspector Waqas ul Hassan Bukhari of the Organised Crime Unit (OCU), formerly known as the CIA, on Saturday filed a formal complaint at Faisal Town Police Station against the accused.
The OCU team received a tip-off about the presence of proclaimed offenders, who had been evading the authorities, taking refuge in Abid Boxer’s home. In response, a raid was conducted by the OCU to apprehend the wanted individuals. However, during the operation, Abid Boxer reportedly obstructed the police personnel by issuing threats and instructing his security guard to prevent them from entering his premises.
The complaint also alleged that one of Abid Boxer’s guards managed to snatch a rifle from one of the police officers.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed against Abid Boxer invokes serious provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), charging him with dacoity, terrorism-related offenses, aiding fugitive suspects, and obstructing the police from carrying out their duties.
Despite the resistance, the police eventually succeeded in apprehending the suspected criminals and proclaimed offenders who had sought shelter in Abid Boxer’s house. During the operation, illegal weapons were also recovered from their possession.
Abid Boxer, who previously served as an inspector in the Punjab Police, has been linked to a range of criminal activities, including extrajudicial killings, fake encounters, kidnapping for ransom, murder, and land grabbing. He had fled to Dubai in 2007 to evade arrest by the police and potential retaliation from his adversaries.
Interpol apprehended Abid Boxer at Dubai airport on February 8, 2018, and subsequently handed him over to Pakistani authorities on February 20 of the same year.
Abid Boxer initially joined the Punjab Police as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) through a sports quota. Through promotions, he eventually rose to the rank of inspector and held positions as the Station House Officer (SHO) at various police stations in Lahore.
Two of the most prominent cases against Abid Boxer include the alleged murder of Brigadier (retd) Mehmood Sharif’s wife. It is claimed that he, along with his associates, kidnapped and later killed her, subsequently seizing her property, which included a cinema and a house in an upscale area.
Another infamous case involved the renowned stage actress Nargis, who accused Boxer of orchestrating an attack on her home. The incident reportedly involved holding her family hostage, subjecting them to torture, and forcibly shaving her head and eyebrows.
