Two killed, three cops injured in armed clash over disputed land

SWAT: At least two persons were killed and three policemen sustained critical injuries on Wednesday during exchange of fire between rival groups in Amankot area of Swat district.

The deceased include Mohammad Ali, brother of DSP Peshawar Cantt Bacha Hussain and an elder of the area Mohammad Amin alias Khan Lala.

According to Swat DPO Shafiullah Khan Gandapur, the fire exchange took place over a disputed piece of land near Mingora Grassy Ground. It involved two groups: one comprised of DSP Muhammad Ali, Nawab Khan, and Bacha Hussain while the other comprising Ejaz Khan, Akbar Khan, Jahangir Khan, Sabir Khan, and Salman, all residents of Amankot area of Mingora Swat district.

During the clash, three policemen, identified as: Police Mobile Van driver Sardar Ali, constable Shakeel, and constable Iftikhar were also injured.

The police have increased their presence in the area and are actively searching for the individuals responsible for the incident.

Family members of the deceased staged a protest by blocking the road and set fire to the vehicle owned by the accused.

The victims were laid to rest in the evening with strong security measures in place.

On the other hand, the ongoing armed clash caused panic in the city, leading to the closure of some shops in certain areas.
