Two soldiers martyred in South Waziristan

RAWALPINDI: At least two soldiers were martyred in the Sarwekai area of South Waziristan when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, said the Inter-Services Public Relations on Saturday.

The military’s media wing identified the soldiers as Sepoy Banaras Khan, a resident of Orakzai, and Sepoy Abdul Karim, a resident of Khyber.

Soon after the incident, a sanitisation operation was carried out to “eliminate the terrorists present in the area”.

“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” said the ISPR.

In two other incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an intelligence-based operation (IBO) was conducted in the Tirah area of Khyber district.

The ISPR said that “after an intense exchange of fire”, one terrorist was killed while two others injured in the skirmish were arrested.

“Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from these terrorists, who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and target killing of innocent civilians in the area.”
