Over 600,000 leave Pakistan in search of better life

ISLAMABAD: In Pakistan, a concerning trend has emerged as there is a notable surge in the number of well-educated youths choosing to leave the country in pursuit of a higher quality of life. In this year alone, the figures are startling, with more than 600,000 young individuals opting to venture abroad. These ambitious individuals include 6,351 engineers, 2,580 doctors, and 1,194 teachers among various other professionals.

According to media reports, travel agents who facilitate the departure of these aspiring expatriates have emphasized that the actual numbers may be even higher than reported.

They claim that the number of young people seeking opportunities overseas might not merely be double the reported figures but could be as much as quadruple.

Sociologists are viewing this mass exodus of educated youth with concern, though some suggest it may be a momentary phenomenon.

Regardless, they emphasize the urgency for the government to take immediate measures to address the situation and provide incentives for these talented individuals to stay and contribute to the development of the nation. The outflow of skilled professionals can have long-term negative consequences for the country’s growth and development, and thus, timely action is imperative. The government is now under pressure to devise strategies that will encourage these youths to stay, invest their skills locally, and be part of the nation’s progress.
