KP sets up committee to implement action plan for MDCAT test

PESHAWAR: In line with the Chief Minister’s vision of ensuring transparency and fairness in the admission process to medical and dental colleges, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary Home to implement the MDCAT test action plan and decide its details.

According to media reports, the committee, which will include representatives from the district administration, intelligence agencies, and related departments, has been tasked with finalizing strict arrangements to make the test clean and transparent in all respects.

The decision was taken at a meeting held under the supervision of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Azam Khan on Saturday. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Home, concerned secretaries, VCMU, officials of police and intelligence agencies, divisional commissioners, and other concerned persons.

The meeting reviewed the preparations for conducting the MDCAT under the management of Khyber Medical University and discussed the proposed action plan of Khyber Medical University for conducting the test.

The MDCAT test for admissions in medical and dental colleges across the province will be held on November 26, 2023. A total of 46,220 registered candidates will participate in the test, which will be held at 7 districts of the province: DI Khan, Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Dir Lower, Swat, and Abbottabad. It is worth noting that 219 candidates who were involved in cheating during the last test have been blacklisted.

Addressing the meeting, the caretaker chief minister emphasized the need for foolproof arrangements to ensure clean and transparent conduct of the MDCAT test. He directed the concerned authorities to take all necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of the cheating incident that took place in the previous test.

The chief minister also assured that the provincial government will provide all the required resources on a priority basis to ensure the transparent conduct of the test. He said that apart from security, the required administrative and technical resources will also be provided.
