SC rejects Punjab IG’s plea against dismissal of Bahawalnagar’s off-duty constable

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) threw out Punjab IG’s appeal against the dismissal of constable Aslam—who was accused of engaging in indecent activities off-duty with a woman.

CJP Qazi Faez Isa said that the woman involved in the case claimed that Constable Aslam was her husband.

Additional Advocate General of Punjab appeared before the court.

Justice Athar Minallah questioned whether the police can conduct searches of private residences without a warrant.

Justice Athar Minullah also questioned whether the Supreme Court should endorse such illegal actions by the police.

The CJP also sought an explanation from police officers who appeared before the case and inquired about their expenses and travel arrangements.

A three-member bench led by the Chief Justice of Pakistan gave a verdict in favor of Constable Muhammad Aslam, as the Supreme Court upheld the ruling of the Lahore High Court, which had reinstated him.
