Khadija Shah detained for 30 days under MPO shortly after bail approval

LAHORE: The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore has issued orders to detain Khadija Shah, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for a period of 30 days under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

The detention order was issued on the recommendation of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt and the District Intelligence Branch. The notification states that Khadija Shah was involved in violent activities on May 9 and that there is material evidence suggesting that she may pose a threat to law and order.
Khadija Shah’s legal team has announced that they will challenge the detention order in the Lahore High Court. They maintain that the detention is unwarranted and politically motivated.

Khadija Shah’s detention comes amid a crackdown on PTI activists following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan on May 9. Several PTI members have been detained under the MPO ordinance, raising concerns about the erosion of civil liberties in Pakistan.

It remains to be seen how the Lahore High Court will rule on Khadija Shah’s detention order. The case is likely to be closely watched as a test of the independence of the judiciary in Pakistan.
