Xi Jinping floats new proposal to help resolve Palestinian-Israeli dispute

BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday made a three-point proposal on the Palestinian-Israeli issue, calling for a ceasefire to realise lasting peace and security.

All parties in the conflicts should immediately cease fire and hostilities, stop all violence and attacks targeting civilians, and release civilian detainees to avoid more loss of lives and suffering, Xi said at the BRICS extraordinary virtual summit on the Palestinian-Israeli issue.

He said it is also imperative to ensure the safe and smooth passage of humanitarian relief, expand humanitarian aid to people in Gaza, and stop the forced relocation and the cut-off of water, electricity and oil that targets people in Gaza as a collective punishment.

Xi called on the international community to take concrete measures to prevent the escalation of the conflicts and the impact on the stability of the entire Middle East.

President Xi Jinping has called for the release of civilian detainees and an immediate ceasefire as Israel continues to bombard Gaza.

“All parties in the conflicts should immediately cease fire and hostilities, stop all violence and attacks targeting civilians, and release civilian detainees to avoid more loss of lives and suffering,” Xi said as he addressed a virtual summit of fellow BRICS leaders, according to Beijing’s state news agency Xinhua.

He did not make specific reference to the estimated 240 hostages abducted from Israel by Hamas last month, nor to Palestinian prisoners being held by Israel.

We demand a ‘serious’ peace process for a Palestinian state: Saudi crown prince

Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has told a virtual summit of the BRICS group that Saudi Arabia demands the start of a serious and comprehensive peace process to establish a Palestinian state along the borders of 1967, Reuters reports.

“The kingdom’s position is constant and firm; there is no way to achieve security and stability in Palestine except through the implementation of international decisions related to the two-state solution,” Prince Mohammed said.

Putin says BRICS could help reach political settlement in Gaza

Russia calls for a political solution to the situation in Gaza, and the BRICS bloc could take part in it, Russian President Vladimir Putin told a virtual summit of the group.

According to Reuters, Putin said that humanitarian pauses were a right step towards peace and it was important not to draw other countries into the conflict.
