PML-N accused of suppressing PTI: Asad Qaiser

CHARSADDA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser on Friday accused former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his party, the Muslim League-N, of oppressing the PTI.

Speaking to reporters after a medical checkup at a hospital, Qaiser said that the environment created for the upcoming elections is not free and fair. He also criticized the opposition for accusing the PTI of being a “selected” party, saying that the opposition itself has become “a selected plus.”

Qaiser warned that if elections are held in the current environment, they will not be recognized as legitimate. He also said that if Nawaz Sharif wants to be Prime Minister, there is no need for elections and that it would be better to simply issue a notification for him to take office, as was done in the case of Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Regarding the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision on PTI intra-party elections, Qaiser said that the PTI’s legal team is examining the matter. It is worth noting that Qaiser was re-arrested by police as soon as he was released from Swabi Jail. He had been arrested earlier on charges of violating the Election Code of Conduct.

A court in Swabi had granted bail to Qaiser and ordered his release, but Charsadda police took him into custody as soon as he stepped out of jail.
