Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi to be indicted in Cypher case on Dec 12

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister and ex-PTI chairman Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will be indicted in Cypher case on December 12.

During proceedings in Adiala Jail on Monday, the special court decided to indict both PTI leaders in the cipher case. In the first indictment on October 23, both Imran Khan and Qureshi had pleaded not guilty. The special court is rehearing the case after the high court’s order.

The Monday’s hearing was held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi by special court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain.

Imran Khan and Qureshi, who were present in the court, were provided with copies of the case record following a request by their lawyers.

A case was registered against Imran Khan and Qureshi under Sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923. It is related to the “misuse” of alleged contents of a diplomatic cipher, cited by ex-premier Imran Khan as proof of the attempt to remove his government.

Last week, the special court had ruled that the cipher case hearing will continue at Adiala Jail but in open court.
