Solangi reaffirms commitment to in-time, transparent polls

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi has expressed confidence in the democratic process, affirming that the upcoming elections in Pakistan will be held on the scheduled date of February 8, 2024.

“Politicking has been picking up, everyone could see key political leaders of different parties addressing political gatherings across the country which testament to the fact that elections are imminent and would be held on the already announced date by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)”, Caretaker Information and Broadcasting Minister Murtaza Solangi during an interview to a private news channel here on Sunday.

“God willing, the elections will take place on Thursday, February 8, 2024,” Solangi affirmed, emphasizing the adherence to constitutional and legal norms. Solangi stated that the ECP would soon release the schedule of general elections.

“All political parties will be granted a 54-day period for electioneering to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process”, he stated.

Solangi also defended the impartiality of the judiciary, noting that the courts are dispensing justice to everyone and upholding the principle of accountability. He further underscored the caretaker government’s commitment to implementing the orders of the apex court, ensuring the rule of law and constitutional governance.

In the realm of international relations, Solangi highlighted the positive developments in Pakistan’s bilateral ties with the United States and emphasized the strategic partnership with China, expressing optimism about further strengthening relations with the country’s key allies.

Additionally, Solangi stressed the importance of public support for public broadcasters and ruled out the privatization of Pakistan Television (PTV) and Radio Pakistan, signaling a commitment to upholding and improving public broadcasting services.
