ISLAMABAD: The rejection of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates’ nomination papers took center stage as Opposition leader Shehzad Waseem voiced concerns, emphasizing the need for fair and transparent elections to preserve the democratic process.
Speaking during a session of the Upper House chaired by Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani on Tuesday, Waseem urged a spirit of tolerance, urging stakeholders to set aside egos, manage differences amicably, and entrust decisions to the electorate. The Senate members also addressed the caretaker government on issues like illegal emigration, with Senator Sadia Abbasi condemning the Prime Minister’s characterization of Baloch protesters as enemies, labeling it regrettable and counterproductive.
During the session, PML-N Senator Sadia Abbasi criticized the Caretaker Prime Minister for his statement, emphasizing that spreading hatred would not address the country’s challenges. On the matter of illegal emigration, caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi attributed the problem to economic conditions and unemployment, suggesting that elected governments could tackle these issues effectively.
Senator Mehrtaj Roghani brought attention to child deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa hospitals due to a lack of anti-diphtheria serum, prompting caretaker health minister Nadeem Jan to clarify that ensuring serum supply is the responsibility of provincial governments.
The meeting concluded, adjourning until Friday morning at 10:30 am.
