PHC bars KP govt from including names of ex-PTI lawmakers in fourth schedule

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) barred on Friday the including the names of former NA speaker and other MPAs of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the fourth schedule.

The high court directed the KP government not to take any action against the petitioners and sought a reply from the provincial government by January 23.

A single-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed, presiding over the hearing of petitions filed former PTI lawmakers against the inclusion of their names in the fourth schedule.

During the proceedings, Syed Sikandar Hayat Shah, the counsel for the petitioners, presented arguments and evidence supporting his contention that recommendations to include former assembly members in the fourth schedule had been formally made. He stated that the petitioner himself was a former assembly member and a victim of terrorism.

Provincial Attorney General Daniyal Chaudhry apprised the court that the district anti-terrorism coordination committee had recommended the inclusion of these names in the schedule. He, however, asserted that actual inclusion had not taken place yet.

The list of individuals recommended for inclusion in the fourth schedule includes: former national Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, along with former MPAs: – Amjad Ali, Gul Zafar, Iftikhar Mashwani, Mian Sharifat Ali, Abdul Salam, Zaher Shah, Fazal Hakim, and others.
