Shortage of fertilizers

The shortage of fertilizer and its increased price during the peak sowing season of wheat has created an economic burden on the growers, and has reduced the crop yield. This year again, like other parts of the country, farmers of Johi in Sindh’s Dadu district are facing the issue. The government rate of urea fertiliser is about Rs3,500, but it is being sold in the black for more than Rs5,000 per bag. The mafia gets active in the wheat sowing season and earns millions of rupees without any fear of accountability or consequences. The higher authorities should take strict action against these mafias and ensure the availability of fertiliser at the designated rate across the country.
