Former federal minister Sumaira Malik resigns from PML-N

LAHORE: Former federal minister and Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab Sumaira Malik on Monday resigned from her position as well as party.

Sources in the PML-N say that Sumaira Malik had been denied party ticket on direction of party’s senior vice president, Maryam Nawaz.

In a resignation addressed to PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, Sumaira Malik did not elabourate further.

However, sources in the PML-N say that Sumaira Malik had applied for the party ticket from NA-87 Khushab. However, the party did not award her a ticket and rather the party ticket had been awarded to a longtime rival of Sumaira Malik family, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan.

In previous elections held in year 2018, Shakir Bashir Awan had failed to win as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) candidate Malik Ihsanullah Tiwana had won securing 93864 votes while Awan had got 85109 votes.

Sumaira Malik had contested from another constituency, then called NA-93 where she had also suffered defeat at hands of Malik Umar Aslam who bagged 100448 votes while Sumaira Malik could win 70401 votes.
