Shalimar Express’ carriages derail near Bin Qasim

KARACHI: The Shalimar Express en route to Lahore encountered an incident on Monday as three carriages of the train derailed near Bin Qasim Town in Karachi.

No injuries were reported in the incident. According to the railway officials, the relief operation was started immediately, and passengers were transferred to Karachi’s Cantt Station. Affected passengers will be accommodated aboard the Karachi Express.

Railway officials added that the track was repaired following the incident and two trains have used the track after the derailment.

In August last year, the Hazara Express derailed near Sarhari railway station in Sanghar district, claiming at least 35 lives and injuring around 100 others.

There were 19 bogies in the train that had left Karachi with around 1,100 passengers on board. The accident occurred around quarter past one, near the rural town of Sarhari, located some 30 kilometres away from Nawabshah.

The impact of the accident was so huge that even the railway tracks ripped off from the ground.
