ISLAMABAD: Reacting strongly to the PML-N decision to “expel its old guard from Abbottabad from the party,” Sardar Mehtab Abbas on Sunday declared that his group was contesting the upcoming elections independently, categorically saying he has never cared about the consequences of principles.
In a statement on Sunday, he clarified that he did not seek a ticket from the PML-N, as he believed it’s not time for political compromises. “Political is the name of practicing principles and i have never worried about the consequences for principles”, he said.
Meanwhile, Sardar Mehtab Group has announced support for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate in NA-17. Dr Jhangir Khan, the spokesperson for Sardar Mahtab Group, stated that in the NA-17 constituency of the National Assembly, PML-N made a wrong and unjust decision by awarding the party’s ticket to Mubashir Khan. He categorically stated that the group will support PTI’s nominee Ali Khan Jadoon in the elections.
It is noteworthy that Sardar Mahtab Abbas, expelled by PML-N in Abbottabad, had declared his support for the independent candidate Ali Khan Jadoon just a few days ago.
Yesterday, the PML-N announced expelled its long-time Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leader Sardar Mehtab Abbasi over “what it described as continuously violating party discipline.”
According to details, the PML-N also terminated the basic party membership of Abbasi – who has served as chief minister and governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) governor.
In a statement, PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said: “Mehtab Abbasi has been expelled for continuous “violation of party discipline.” “The action was taken on instructions of party President Shehbaz Sharif,” he added.
The development came a day after Former Sardar Mehtab Abbasi announced his support for PTI member, who is contesting as ‘independent candidate’ from Abbottabad’s NA-17 constituency.
Abbasi announced his support to PTI-backed ‘independent candidate’ Ali Khan Jadoon for NA-17 constituency in Abbottabad.
Meanwhile, the former KP governor would contest election as independent candidate as NA-16 constituency.
Last year in Dec, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi parted ways with PML-N while expressing concerns about the provincial leadership, saying that the leadership only thinks of itself and its structure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is over.
Furthermore, he said he had differences with Nawaz Sharif on principles but nothing with Maryam Nawaz. “There should be democracy in political parties, hypocritical thinking and attitude have become important in PML-N,” he claimed.
Abbasi further said that Nawaz Sharif has a weak team and solving the economic crisis is difficult. “Today the PML-N is only limited to Punjab,” he added.
