Printing of 260m watermarked ballot papers underway at brisk pace

ISLAMABAD: With the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024 approaching fast, the printing of 260 million watermarked ballot papers has been in full swing.

As per officials, for Balochistan and Sindh constituencies printing of ballot papers continues in Karachi. On the other hand, ballot papers for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad constituencies were being printed at the government printing office in Islamabad.

Stringent security measures have been made at the Printing Corporation premises throughout the ballot paper production process.

The introduction of watermarked ballot papers in the country took place during the 2018 general elections, signifying a notable milestone. Three printing machines, including the Security Printing Corporation, the Pakistan Postal Foundation, and the Printing Corporation of Pakistan, were being used to share the workload for this endeavor.

Actions against candidates over violation of election code

Meanwhile, the monitoring teams of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have initiated the process of issuing notices and imposing fines against candidates involved in the violation of code of conduct.

The active monitoring teams of the ECP in this regard took action against the candidates in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the violation of the code of conduct.

Similarly, monitoring teams of the Election Commission are also active in Punjab.

In Nankana Sahib, a warning was issued to election candidates for displaying Panaflex and billboards. Panaflex and other promotional materials have been removed from Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Sargodha and Bhakkar.

Panaflex hoardings have also been put up in Chiniot, Faisalabad, Nankana, Kasur, Lahore and Multan. Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab has issued strict instructions to District Monitoring Officers in this regard.
