Nawaz vows ‘cheap, increased’ electricity as PML-N unveils manifesto

  • It lays strong emphasis on agricultural sector uplift, tackling climate change impacts
  • Promises creation of massive jobs, easy-to-secure loans for businesses

LAHORE: After a long wait, Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Saturday launched the party’s ‘much-talked-about’ manifesto on Saturday, reiterating the resolve to “fully implement” it if the party comes into power.

The PML-N manifesto was launched at a gathering held in the party secretariat in Model Town. On the occasion, the former premier termed the country’s economy the most important aspect of PML-N’s manifesto.

“It is painful to be expelled from the government, the mistakes must be known,” said Nawaz. “I do not want to go into the discussion of how RTS was closed, but if it had not been closed, we would have had a government at the Centre like in Punjab,” said the former PM.

The PML-N supremo said he hoped people would read the party’s manifesto. “If I was there in the previous government instead of the person who you saw, I would have never done what he did,” said Nawaz about former premier Imran Khan.

“The people of KP are easily fooled, as they voted for Imran Khan,” said Nawaz.

Nawaz vowed that if voted into power for the fourth time, the PML-N government would reduce power bills by 20 to 30 percent and provide “cheap and increased electricity” and increased development in the country.

The manifesto also promises a massive job creation programme and easy-to-secure loans for establishing businesses.

The party also plans to restore student unions in an attempt to win the youth’s favour, allocate funds for IT start-ups and expand the National Youth Scheme.

‘Key points of manifesto’

The manifesto outlines key priorities and commitments, with a strong emphasis on uplifting the agricultural sector and addressing climate change impacts.

One of the standout points in the manifesto is the commitment to elevate the status of farmers through agricultural innovation, aiming to shield the country from the adverse effects of climate change. The party envisions a comprehensive approach to tackle environmental challenges while promoting sustainable farming practices.

The PML-N manifesto also highlights plans for constitutional, legal, judicial, and administrative reforms. Notably, it includes the restoration of Article 62/63 to its original state, emphasizing a commitment to constitutional integrity. Additionally, the manifesto signals the abolition of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as part of broader institutional reforms.

Looking ahead to economic pledges, the PML-N promises a substantial reduction in electricity bills, ranging from 20 to 30 percent, to ease the financial burden on citizens. Furthermore, the party aims to create one crore jobs, signaling a commitment to addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth.

As the election season gains momentum, the PML-N’s manifesto for 2024-2029 showcases a strategic vision for the country’s future, balancing agricultural advancement, environmental resilience, and socio-economic reforms.

Continuing PML-N’s approach to foreign policy matters, the manifesto promised to send a “message of peace” to other countries including India that it reverses the August 2019 action in occupied Kashmir.

For overseas Pakistanis, the party manifesto says that they will “rebuild Pakistan together” and promised the people to “bring Constitutional, legal, judicial and administrative reforms”.

The party also promised reforms in the education sector in its manifesto, “rebuild tourism” and bring reforms to sports including the establishment of new stadiums and sports academies.
