FESCO nabs 20 culprits in 24-hour operation

FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has intensified its crackdown on electricity theft, with 20 more culprits apprehended in the last 24 hours.

Tahir Sheikh, the spokesperson for FESCO, reported that the operation spanned 6 circles within the FESCO region, resulting in the identification of over 32,000 detection units and fines totaling more than 13 lakh 15 thousand.

As part of the ongoing special campaign against electricity theft in the FESCO region, a total of 5748 electricity thieves have been nabbed, accumulating more than 139 lakh detection units. Substantial fines amounting to over 63 crore 74 lakh have been imposed on these culprits, with 4641 arrests made. The recovered amount from these electricity thieves has exceeded 44 crore 54 lakh.

Breaking down the statistics for specific districts, Tahir Sheikh provided detailed insights into the success of the crackdown. In district Faisalabad, 1850 electricity thieves were identified, resulting in more than 43 lakh detection units and fines exceeding 19 crore 61 lakh. District Bhakkar witnessed 618 electricity thieves being caught, leading to fines of over 19 lakh 32 thousand detection units and 7 crore 68 lakh. Similarly, Chiniot district saw 543 electricity thieves penalized with over 17 lakh 44 thousand detection units and a fine exceeding 7 crore 47 lakh.

In district Khushab, 186 electricity thieves faced fines amounting to more than 446 thousand detection units and over 2 crore 28 lakh. District Mianwali recorded 761 electricity thieves with more than 15 lakh 53 thousand detection units and fines exceeding 7 crore 12 lakh. Meanwhile, in Sargodha district, 623 electricity thieves incurred fines of more than 12 lakh 80 thousand detection units and over 6 crore 21 lakh. Lastly, Toba district reported fines totaling more than 9 lakh 52 thousand detection units and over 4 crore 99 lakh imposed on 420 electricity thieves.
