I am writing as a concerned citizen who greatly appreciates the commendable efforts of IG Punjab in launching a crackdown against underage drivers in Punjab.
While the Punjab Police’s endeavors have significantly improved the situation on public roads, there remains a pressing issue that demands attention—the unchecked presence of underage drivers within housing societies, particularly in Lahore. In large housing societies, especially Bahria Town, young individuals drive without the fear of repercussions due to the absence of regular checks and balances.
Parents, too, seem to be under the impression that the enforcement of driving regulations is lax within these gated communities. It is crucial to address this issue promptly to prevent potential accidents, injuries, and loss of life.
I would like to propose the development of a robust mechanism to launch a targeted crackdown against underage drivers within housing societies. The plan could involve collaboration with housing society management to conduct routine age and license verifications at entry points. Additionally, mobile checkpoints within these communities could deter underage individuals from driving, promoting compliance with legal age requirements for obtaining a driver’s license.
I am hopeful that the IG Punjab will consider this request earnestly and take necessary steps to implement measures that will effectively curb underage driving within housing societies.
