ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Hammad Azhar on Wednesday withdrew his appeal from the Supreme Court against rejection of his nomination papers from NA-129 Lahore.
The election appellate tribunal had rejected Hammad Azhar’s appeal against rejection of nomination papers by the returning officer (RO) and the Lahore High Court had upheld the tribunal decision.
Advocate Aftab Yasir, one of the counsels of the PTI leader Hammad Azhar, informed the apex court that his client did not want to pursue his appeal against nomination papers rejection.
On the occasion, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah question, why the high court had given reference to Article 62 (i)-F in its decision. “The verdict has been clear that Article 62 (i)-F is not applicable by itself,” Justice Shah remarked.
To which, advocate Yasir said that the court’s decision has also come about the eligibility of a proclaimed offender.
“The court decision will not benefit to Hammad Azhar due to withdrawal of his appeal,” Justice Shah said. “It seems Hammad Azhar doesn’t want to surrender,” Justice Jamal Mandokhel remarked.
“It seems no harm in surrender,” the counsel said.
