ATC returns Sh Rashid’s bail plea with objections

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi on Saturday returned the bail application of Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed after prosecution raised objections to the plea.

ATC Judge Malik Ijaz Asif presided over the proceedings. He deemed the prosecution’s objections valid and directed the applicant to remove the objections till February 6. Later, the judge adjourned the bail application hearing until February 6.

The prosecution raised the objections that the High Court orders related to the May 9 case in Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s petition was missing. Additionally, certified copies of judgments from the High Court were not enclosed with the application.

The public prosecutor further pointed out the lack of information regarding granted or rejected bail decisions and the omission of crucial details involving former Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Sadaqat Abbasi, and Col Ajmal Saber becoming sworn witnesses.

It’s worth noting that due to a holiday in the High Court and subordinate courts on February 5, obtaining copies becomes impossible. With only one day left before the election on February 6, the opportunity to apply for certified copies remains thin.
