SHEIKHUPURA: Arshad Mahmood Manda, a candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Department from National Assembly Constituency NA-114 Sheikhupura.
The arrest occurred in Sharqpur, where Manda was en-route to a corner meeting during his election campaign. Authorities from the anti-corruption department cited the arrest as part of a case related to the accumulation of assets exceeding Manda’s declared income.
In response, Asghar Mehmood Manda, speaking on behalf of his brother Arshad Manda in a video statement, claimed the arrest was politically motivated, orchestrated by opponents in the constituency.
It’s noteworthy that this incident follows a series of arrests targeting leaders and workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Former Punjab provincial minister Khyal Castro was arrested by the police in Faisalabad. Castro, previously elected on a PTI ticket in 2018, faced charges related to the May 9 incident, including abuse of power, corruption, and involvement in contract scams.
Anti-corruption had previously issued summon notices to Castro as investigations were underway against him. Khyal Castro, who had served as the Provincial Minister of Information and Culture in Punjab after the 2018 elections, faced a case registered against him following the May 9 incident.
