Peasant’s daughter contesting elections against Nawabs of Balochistan

JHAL MAGSI: Rehana Magsi of the Balochistan Jhal Magsi is the ‘first’ woman to be contesting elections against the powerful Nawabs and Sardars in the backward region.

Hailing from Ghot Sarang of Jhal Magsi, she has been contesting elections from her poverty-hit area— PB-11 constituency, under the banner of the local political party, Jamot Qaumi Movement.

From dawn to dusk, she walked from house to house holding pamphlets in hand and sometimes her family members took her on the bike to run the election campaign.

Rehana said that she lacked enough resources for the printing of colored pamphlets for her election campaign.

“My father is a peasant. My brother has taken a bike on installment and has arranged for me to contest the elections by selling it.”

She vowed to defeat the powerful sardars and nawabs of Balochistan with the power of vote.
