Vote Buying: ECP issues notices to PML-N and PPP leaders

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)has taken notice of allegations of vote buying by PPP and PML-N and served notices to PML-N leader Atta Tarar and PPP leader Misbahur Rehman in connection with the purported vote buying

According to the details, the Punjab provincial election commissioner took action against the alleged exchange of votes.

The notices specifically addressed the reported buying and selling of votes, as well as an attack on the election office.

Both candidates, Tarar (NA-127) and Misbahur Rehman (PP-160) had been asked to provide supporting evidence for their respective claims on February 5.

Earlier on Saturday, the PPP vehemently accused Atta Tarar of engaging in the illicit practice of buying and selling votes within his office premises.

The PPP claimed that a viral video circulating on social media provides evidence of money changing hands, particularly among women voters who are allegedly taking oaths while receiving money.

According to the PPP, a viral video circulating on social media purportedly shows money exchanging hands in Atta Tarar’s office.

The PPP claimed that the video provides clear evidence of vote-buying, particularly targeting women voters who are reportedly taking oaths while receiving money.

In a counter-move, Atta Tarar tweeted that the PPP members were caught red-handed buying votes in NA-127.

He asserted the PPP leaders were administering oaths on religious texts to secure votes. He accused Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari of disrupting Lahore’s peace. Tarar vowed to take legal action.

Meanwhile, slamming PML-N candidate from a Lahore constituency Ataullah Tarar for hurling threats at her party’s voters, PPP Senator Palwasha Khan on Monday asked the PML-N to make its stance clear on its leader’s aggressive language.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, she appealed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of the PML-N leader’s language.

She said the reason why Tarar had resorted to such tactics was because he knew fully well that he would taste defeat in the elections.

She claimed that the PML-N had the habit of purchasing votes.

“Do you think that you can browbeat the PPP by hurling threats?” Palwasha asked the PML-N candidate.

It appeared, she went on to say, as if Tarar had watched an Indian movie. “The language he is using is not expected from a civilized man,” she added.

The PPP senator said that Tarar should be mindful of the fact that the people hold the PML-N accountable in the elections.

She asked Tarar how on earth he asked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to leave Lahore. “Let me remind you that even in the past, the PPP faced political heavyweights in Lahore.”

Palwasha claimed that even the PML-N voters were not happy with the party’s decision to award ticket to Tarar for the elections. “The bloodbath committed by the PML-N government in Model Town in 2014 is not hidden from anyone,” the PPP senator said.

On the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, Palwasha renewed her party’s resolve to support the Kashmiri brethren.
