ECP raises objections to appointment of new BoK MD

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has raised objection to the appointment of a new managing director (MD) for the Bank of Khyber (BoK), according to sources.

The ECP has taken notice of an advertisement published by the BoK administration for the post of MD, despite a ban on all such appointments by the commission before the elections.

A former BoK employee has filed a written application with the ECP, requesting that the appointment of a new MD be stopped. The ECP has sought an explanation from the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the matter.

The KP government has said that the BoK’s board of directors (BoD) is responsible for the appointment of the MD.according to sources. The provincial government has also said that the BoK Act has been amended, and the BoD will now be responsible for appointing the MD.

Efforts to contact the provincial caretaker finance minister, Ahmed Rasool Bangash, for comment were unsuccessful. BoK acting MD Irfan Saleem Awan said that he had not yet received any instructions from the chief secretary to stop the appointment of a new MD.

The MD is the chief executive officer of the BoK and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the bank.
