The office of the sub-registrar in Karachi’s Orangi Town area has become a hub of corru- ption, making the lives of the residents miserable. Despite paying all the taxes, people are tortured, humiliated and forced to pay extra money for the regis- tration of various documents. Officials take documents home, and then declare some of them missing or lost. After extorting money from the people, the ‘lost’ documents magically reappear. The higher authorities should take action against the corrupt officials and save the people from mental and financial torture. This needs to be done urgently.
