Heavy rain, snowfall forecast for upper parts of country

ISLAMABAD: Rain and snowfall alert with landslides was issued on Sunday by Met office for the lower and upper regions of the country besides rain with thunderstorms in various areas of Punjab during next 24 hours.

Met office said a strong westerly wave approached western parts of the country and may grip upper/central parts of the country from Sunday.

There is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall in Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch and Havelian regions of Azad Kashmir. The Met department expressed the possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Guliyat, Kashmir, Skardu and Gilgit Baltistan’s areas due to rain and snowfall. There were chance of light rain in parts of Karachi.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. On Sunday partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorm (snow over mountain) is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, Punjab, northern Balochistan. Met office said rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over mountain) is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, north Balochistan, Murree, Galliyat and upper/central Punjab. Gusty winds are expected in Sindh and Balochistan.

Moderate to heavy rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) was expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan during next 24 hours with occasional gaps.

Moderate to heavy rain-wind/thunderstorm was also expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur during next two days, while light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm in Multan, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan on Sunday and Monday.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm was also likely in Balochistan’s areas including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel and Kohlu in next 24 hours.

In Sindh dry weather with strong gusty winds was likely during next 24 hours.
