While it is good to read about Karachi’s beautification project that intends to plant many fully grown date trees on Sharea Faisal. However, I am concerned about the consequences of planting an alien tree species in the climate of Karachi, as was seen in the case of conocarpus species. One wonders how such an alien tree species can take roots in an alien climate. A better option would be to plant trees that are endemic and adapted to the climate of Karachi, such as coconuts, neem and banyan trees.
