PTI Senator Ijaz Chaudhry denied presidential election vote despite production order

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ijaz Chaudhry faced deprivation of voting rights in the presidential election despite the issuance of a production order.

Initially permitted by the Home Department, Senator Chaudhry was prevented from casting his vote as prison authorities refused to transport him to Islamabad. Consequently, the PTI Senator’s absence prompted slogans of support within Parliament.

The Deputy Chairman Senate had previously ordered the production order for Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, currently detained on judicial remand. PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar urged for Chaudhry’s immediate release, emphasizing the availability of high court orders for his release.

Expressing concern over Chaudhry’s health issues, Zafar advocated for the formation of a medical board to assess his condition at PIMS (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences). Until then, he suggested Chaudhry be accommodated in Parliament Lodges.

Zafar underscored Chaudhry’s right to participate in the presidential election and urged for the issuance of production orders in accordance with parliamentary rules. Failure to facilitate Chaudhry’s participation, he emphasized, would be a disservice to the Senate’s integrity.
