KE refutes ‘Insane Loadshedding’ reports

Apropos to Kishen Haridas’ letter titled ‘Insane Loadshedding’ published on March 13, 2024: KE evaluates its network to gauge levels of bill payments and the impact of electricity theft that determine area loss profiles. Currently, 71% of KE’s network is receiving uninterrupted power supply, with the remaining 29% experiencing loadshedding in proportion to these loss profiles. Meanwhile, loadshedding is capped at a maximum duration of 10 hours daily. Through 20,000 kunda removal drives, KE removed 200,000+ kg of illegal wiring since July 2023 and continues to take strict action against power theft. The power utility continues to collaborate with government and law enforcement agencies to support efforts against the same. It must be said, eradication of power theft is crucial for improving the loss profiles of such neighborhoods. In this respect, KE appreciates the role of communities, area representatives and elected stakeholders who share a unified vision of energizing Karachi and collaborate with the utility in addressing these challenges. Furthermore, KE continues to facilitate people with respect to the timely payment of their bills while increasing vigilance on the ground as part of its governance against power theft. We request that communities residing, may work with KE to improve supply to their areas.
