PESHAWAR – CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur has said that if any officer of the KP government comes to a resident of the province asking for a bribe, grab a brick and break open his head and tell them “I told you to do so”.
The newly elected CM of KP who is a senior member of the Pakistan Thereek-e-Insaaf (PTI) made these comments while addressing a crowd in DI Khan.
The recent approval of vigilante justice has sparked extensive backlash and heightened worries regarding its potential consequences. By encouraging individuals to sidestep lawful procedures and turn to violence; Gandapur’s declaration might instigate a climate of disorder and vigilante vengeance, paving the way for exploitation and abuse of authority.
Gandapur is know for making controversial statements in the past, especially against political rivals.
Two years back, shortly after the PTI lost the no confidence vote in National assembly and its government was sent packing, Gandapur, during a public rally, made severely sexist comments against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz who recently became CM Punjab.
Critics contend that Gandapur’s recent statements not only sanction violence but also weaken the foundations of the rule of law and institutional credibility. Rather than fostering accountability and openness through legitimate avenues, such declarations jeopardize order and exacerbate distrust in governmental establishments.
