- LHC petitioned against Punjab govt for holding a meeting with PML-N supremo in chair
LAHORE: Central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former provincial minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Wednesday criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for what she described as running Punjab in a manner resembling a monarchy rather than a democracy, calling into question Nawaz Sharif’s chairing meetings of the Punjab government.
Speaking informally to the media during her appearance at the Anti-Terrorism Court Lahore on Wednesday, Dr Yasmin Rashid pointed out that Maryam Nawaz, a key figure in the PML-N, had publicly declared their family’s dominance by having her father chair the Punjab Cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against the Punjab government’s act of holding an administrative meeting with former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in chair.
Dr Yasmin Rashid emphasized that this action by Maryam Nawaz signified a disregard for constitutional principles and the rule of law.
She questioned the legitimacy of Nawaz Sharif’s presence at the meeting, highlighting his controversial status as a member of the National Assembly. She noted that Nawaz Sharif’s parliamentary seat is currently under dispute and awaiting a decision from the courts.
Furthermore, Dr Yasmin Rashid expressed concern over recent developments, including the issuance of arrest warrants for the constitutional Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by authorities from Punjab. She asserted that such actions risk creating conflict between provinces and contribute to a climate of chaos, anxiety, and uncertainty in the country.
In light of these developments, Dr Yasmin Rashid called upon the judiciary to take notice of the situation and intervene as necessary to uphold the rule of law and ensure stability within the nation.
LHC moved against Punjab govt’s meeting with Nawaz Sharif in chair
Meanwhile, the act of the Punjab government to hold an administrative meeting with former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in chair has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
An application against the administrative meeting chaired by Nawaz Sharif was filed in the Lahore High Court on behalf of Nadeem Sarwar Advocate.
The petitioner took the stance that Nawaz Sharif was neither a minister nor a chief minister. He did not hold any administrative position.
He contended that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif could not preside over any meeting at the administrative level.
It was requested in the petition that the court should issue an order to prevent Nawaz Sharif from presiding over the meeting at the administrative level.
