Light rain turns weather chilly in central Punjab, capital

ISLAMABAD: The provincial capital and various areas of central Punjab received light rain late Saturday night coupled with gusty wind which dipped the mercury besides compelling the people to wear woollies.

The rain and wind caused power shutdown and fluctuation in many areas. Rain was reported from Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Jail Road, Model Town, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Sanda, Gulshan Ravi, besides other cities of the province.

Moreover, rain was reported in district Sheikhurpura, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab and other areas which turned the weather chilly. According to Met office, weather will remain cloudy for the next 24 hours. While cloudy and rainy weather was likely to persist during the entire week. After the rain, remarkable decline was seen in pollution and Lahore’s air quality indexed was ranked 26 globally.

While overall AQI index was seen at 82 in Lahore.

Met officials said a shallow westerly wave was affecting western and upper parts of the country and likely to persist. It predicted that dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while partly cloudy in upper areas.

However, light rain-wind/thunderstorm was likely at isolated places in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir and surrounding hilly areas. Saturday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Nawab Shah where mercury reached 39°C while in Lahore it was 31.5°C and minimum was 18.5°C.
Dry weather is expected in most parts of the country while partly cloudy in upper areas during the next 24 hours according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

However, light rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely at isolated places in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir and surrounding hilly areas.
During the last 24 hours, dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country.

The maximum temperatures recorded were Shaheed Benazirabad 39 C, Chhor, Mithi, Sakrand 38, Lasbela and Hyderabad 37C.
