Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is intensifying efforts to attract and hire AI talent, according to reports.
Zuckerberg has been reaching out to artificial-intelligence researchers at Google’s DeepMind personally, sending them emails expressing Meta’s keen interest in AI and inviting them to join the company, as per sources cited in The Information’s report.
The report also notes that Meta is offering positions to candidates without formal interviews and has relaxed its policy on offering higher salaries to those with competing job offers.
These recruitment actions align with Zuckerberg’s strategy to position Meta as a major player in the AI industry. In a previous interview with The Verge, Zuckerberg mentioned Meta’s plans to acquire over 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by the end of 2024, emphasizing the company’s substantial capacity for AI development.
Meta’s approach to AI development includes an open-source ethos, contrasting with some competitors like OpenAI. Last year, Meta released Llama 2, a predominantly open-source AI model, reflecting its commitment to openness in AI innovation.
Zuckerberg highlighted AI as a top investment priority for Meta, both in terms of engineering and compute resources, during an earnings call with investors.
