LAHORE: In the wake of the Bahawalnagar incident, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar dismissed concerns about the morale of the Punjab Police, asserting that “anti-national elements” are exploiting the incident to spread false narratives and sow discord between institutions.
In a video message, the Punjab police chief said “outlawed groups” were stoking flames on social media to sow seeds of doubt about the unity between the institutions while trying to give an impression of institutional conflict.
He stressed that the morale of the Punjab police served as the bedrock “of our fight against terrorists, thieves, and robbers”.
IGP Anwar emphasized that the police force remains united and determined to fight against terrorism and crime. He acknowledged procedural lapses in the Bahawalnagar incident but stressed that it was not a systemic failure.
An investigative inquiry has been initiated, involving both police and military personnel. The Punjab government has also formed an inquiry committee to determine individual accountability.
IGP Anwar urged the police force to ignore social media criticism and remain focused on their duty. He highlighted the department’s commitment to personnel welfare and reiterated the police force’s pledge to serve and protect the nation.
Earlier, ISPR announced the initiation of a joint inquiry involving police and security personnel, aimed at ensuring transparency and identifying those responsible for legal violations.
