CM Maryam Nawaz directs to expedite work on rehab of roads, BHUs & RHCs

  • Directs to ensure transparency and quality, besides timely completion of all projects

LAHORE: Transparency and quality should be ensured in the construction and rehabilitation of roads and hospitals, besides timely completion of all projects, directed Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

She was chairing a review meeting to review progress on the rehabilitation of roads, Basic Health Units (BHUs), and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) across Punjab.

“I will go and review all these projects personally. Therefore standards and quality must be ensured to let the masses reap the benefits of these projects,” Maryam Nawaz emphasized.

The Punjab CM directed for completion of Lahore Ring Road SL-3 project as soon as possible, besides taking immediate steps, in collaboration with the federal government, for the early construction of SL-4.

During the meeting, recommendations for the construction of Depalpur-Layyah dual carriageway besides other roads were also discussed. The CM directed to plant trees on road sides, including 100,000 saplings along Gujranwala-Lahore Expressway.

Earlier, the Punjab CM was briefed that under “Sarkein Bahaal…Punjab Khushhal” Programme,” the construction, repair and rehabilitation of 590 arteries and connecting roads across Punjab have been undertaken. And so far, four roads have been rehabilitated, while work is in progress on five others. It was told that the construction work on Muridke-Narowal, Painsara-Shorkot, Jhangra-Ahmedpur East, Chawinda-Sabz Pir and Zafarwal roads is in full swing. It was told that Bahawalpur to Jhangra East will be the most beautiful expressway of Punjab. The chief minister was informed that an investor conference will be held in May for the construction of Multan-Vehari Expressway under public-private partnership.

On the occasion, the chief minister was apprised that the construction and maintenance of health centres in Phoolnagar, Manga Mandi, Shamke Bhattian and Ferozwala has been completed, while work is in full swing on rest of others. She directed to complete the upgradation of health centres on war footing.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Punjab Minister for Communication and Works Sohaib Ahmed Malik, Chairman Planning and Development Board and Secretary Construction and Works attended the meeting.

‘Early Construction, Rehabilitation of Lahore’s Streets, Bazaars’

Meanwhile, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered early completion of the Lahore Development Plan (LDP), directing to undertake construction, rehabilitation of Lahore’s streets, bazaars along with provision of streetlights and completion of drainage projects within three months.

Maryam Nawaz chaired a special meeting to review progress on the LDP wherein she was given a comprehensive briefing on the construction and rehabilitation of Lahore’s streets, roads, sanitation and other projects.

It was decided to undertake monitoring of the LDP through Geographical Information System. The NesPak and Environment specialists would also provide assistance in execution of the LDP. It was informed during the meeting that the projects pertaining to environment protection, restoration of parks and their beauty are also included in the development plan.

On the occasion, Maryam Nawaz regretted that construction and rehabilitation of roads had been neglected since long. “I want to see all the streets and bazaars of Lahore clean and exquisitely maintained, besides the issues of sewerage system should be on war footing,” the Punjab CM declared.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Former Senator Parvez Rasheed, Provincial Ministers – Bilal Yasin, Syed Ashiq Kirmani, MPA Sania Ashiq, Principal Secretary to CM, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Lahore attended the meeting.
