Bride’s father beaten to death in brawl over song at wedding

Tragedy struck at a wedding in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, India, as a dispute over a particular song escalated into a fatal brawl, resulting in the death of the bride’s father.

Ram Baran Singh, the victim, was embroiled in a heated altercation with guests over the selection of DJ music during his daughter’s wedding on April 21, as reported by an Indian media outlet.

The confrontation turned violent, leaving Singh with severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention but tragically succumbed to his wounds, as confirmed by hospital authorities.

Local law enforcement initiated an investigation, prompted by a complaint filed by the victim’s brother. Five individuals, including the primary suspect, were charged with culpable homicide. The main suspect, identified as Raju Singh, remains at large.

According to police officials, the assailants, including the prime suspect’s son and nephews, launched a brutal attack on Singh with iron rods and stones during the traditional farewell ceremony for the bride, known as ‘bidaai,’ on the morning of April 22.

The altercation reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over a song played during the wedding festivities. Although the situation seemed to calm down initially, tensions resurfaced the following morning when the prime suspect and his accomplices stormed Singh’s residence armed with weapons.

Singh’s brother recounted the harrowing ordeal, detailing how the assailants mercilessly assaulted his brother and attacked those who attempted to intervene. The assailants fled the scene after looting gold jewelry and cash from Singh’s home.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning, underscoring the need for peace and restraint in resolving conflicts, even amid joyous occasions like weddings.
