ISLAMABAD: Senator Faisal Vawda has strongly criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its fluctuating stance on negotiations, alleging that the party attempted talks with the establishment but changed its position when met with silence.
Vawda, a former PTI member, lambasted the party’s shifting rhetoric, particularly its portrayal of former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Initially criticized, PTI later offered an extension of his tenure, revealing what Vawda termed as a flip-flop in PTI’s stance.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Vawda’s remarks came after PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan denied any ongoing ‘backdoor talks’, contradicting reports of negotiations with the establishment and political forces, allegedly green-lit by incarcerated founder Imran Khan.
Vawda highlighted a recurring pattern in Pakistan, where positive developments coincide with upheaval, citing protests, violence, and legal hurdles as obstacles to progress.
He stressed the need for mutual respect and swift resolution between the government and the judiciary to avoid potential confrontations, emphasizing the importance of upholding dignity and cooperation.
Regarding the controversy surrounding IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar and the court’s subsequent statement, Vawda called for an end to the smear campaign. He urged clarity on the court’s clarification to prevent further confusion, especially concerning Justice Sattar’s US green card disclosure, emphasizing the importance of concrete evidence to support such claims.
