Punjab CM, WHO Regional Director agree to enhance collaboration

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and WHO Regional Director for Eastern Mediterranean Dr Hanan Balkhy on Friday agreed to enhanced collaboration for the provision of better health facilities to people in Punjab.

According to detail, WHO Regional Director for Eastern Mediterranean Dr Hanan Balkhy called on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to discuss collaboration for better health facilities in the province.

On the occasion, Dr Hanan Balkhy congratulated CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif on being elected as the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab. The chief minister also felicitated Dr Hanan Balkhy on assuming the office of WHO Regional Director.

The CM lauded the services of Dr Balkhy rendered in the health sector especially with regard to controlling infection among the people.CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said,” The Punjab government will provide complete cooperation and assistance to WHO to ensure diseases prevention and improve treatment facilities.

“Bringing reforms in the health sector is our foremost priority. 32 field hospitals have been functionalized for the rural people in the province and we will accomplish our target to establish state-of-the-art hospitals in every district within the next 05 years,” the Punjab CM reiterated her government’s resolve.

Dr Hanan Balkhy said that undertaking timely measures were highly essential to save the people living far-flung areas from infectious diseases. WHO will provide complete cooperation and assistance for the provision of timely health facilities in case of arising natural calamity emergency situation, she added.

World Press Freedom Day Message

“Media plays a pivotal role in awakening collective consciousness of society,” said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on World Press Freedom Day. She emphasized that a sense of responsibility for press freedom was great significance to bring positive change.

Cm Marayam Nawaz said,” Freedom of expression is essential for transparency, thriving democracy and awareness in society.” The Punjab government is taking all possible measures for the welfare of journalism and journalists, she added.

“I pay tribute to every journalist who raised the banner of independent thinking in the era of dictatorship,” the chief minister expressed, adding that all the hardworking journalists who report abuse in society with responsibly and raise public issues deserve glowing tribute.

Condoles Over Chilas Traffic Accident

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in Chilas traffic accident. She offered condolences and showed sympathy with the bereaved families.

The Punjab CM prayed for the pace and rest of the deceased persons and early recovery of the injured in this tragic incident.
