- PPP’s loyalists – Kundi, Mandokhel and Khan appointed governors of Punjab, Balochistan, and KP respectively
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari appointed on Saturday the governors of Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Faisal Karim Kundi, Jaffar Khan Mandokhel, and Sardar Saleem Haider Khan have been appointed governors of Punjab, Balochistan, and KP respectively.
The president made the appointments in accordance with Articles 48(1) and 101 of the Constitution.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari finalized the names of the governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan in their meeting at the PM house.
The prime minister and PPP chairman had previously endorsed the same names, which were approved by the president today.
The three names chosen for the governorship have longstanding affiliations with their respective parties.
Haider has prior experience as a special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistanis and served as minister of state for defence and defence production.
Kundi, a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, is currently the information secretary of the PPP, while Mandokhel, a senior PML-N leader, has been elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly multiple times.
