RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Police apprehended two smugglers and seized a large consignment of illegal arms and ammunition during a successful operation conducted in the Pirwadhai area on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson, acting on a tip-off, police officials stopped a suspicious vehicle for a routine check. Upon inspection, they discovered a cache of weapons that included 50 pistols of various calibers, four Kalashnikov rifles, four 30-bore rifles, two MP5 rifles, two M4 rifles, a 222-bore rifle, a Kalashnikov-like rifle, two 12-bore Kalashnikov rifles, over 4,800 rounds of ammunition, 100 cartridges, and 135 magazines.
The arrested individuals, identified as Tariq and Abdul Haseeb, were reportedly attempting to smuggle the weapons from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into Rawalpindi.
While the police successfully apprehended the duo, their accomplice, Ilyas, managed to escape. A search operation is currently underway to locate him.
Rawalpindi Police spokesperson commended the efforts of the Pirwadhai Police team, appreciating their vigilance during the snap checking that led to this major haul.
CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani congratulated the officials involved in the operation and reiterated the police’s commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking. He emphasized that those involved in the sale and supply of illegal weapons will be brought to justice.
The seized weapons could have potentially posed a serious threat to public safety, and their timely interception is a commendable feat by the authorities.
