Karachi anticipates sweltering conditions with ‘feels like’ temperature reaching 42°C

KARACHI: Residents of Karachi should brace themselves for a surge in summer temperatures, with the perceived temperature expected to hover between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts hot and muggy weather for Karachi over the next 24 hours, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35°C to 37°C and a minimum of 27.3°C.

According to the Met Office, winds in the city are blowing at 11 kilometres per hour, with humidity levels at 70%. The combination of high humidity and temperature will contribute to a heightened sensation of heat for Karachi residents.

Weather analyst Jawwad Memon predicts a slight alleviation in the evening, although the atmosphere is likely to remain partly cloudy.

Additionally, the PMD warns of a potential nationwide increase in temperatures due to a looming heatwave this month.

Throughout the week, most parts of the country will experience hot and dry conditions, particularly in the southern regions where temperatures are expected to soar.

While Islamabad has seen some respite from the heat due to April and May rains, the upcoming days are anticipated to be scorching, according to Director General of the Meteorology Department, Mahr Sahibzad Khan.

Moreover, this year’s above-average rainfall in Pakistan, especially in Sindh and Balochistan, is likely to influence weather patterns.

As temperatures rise, experts advise citizens to take precautions such as wearing head coverings and staying hydrated to safeguard against the heatwave.
